TPS Hackney Consultation Report

The People’s Supermarket spent 3 months this year working to identify support and need for a second store in Homerton, Hackney.

The findings from that consultation are now available in the form of a final report submitted to London Borough of Hackney in November.

The People’s Supermarket would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those that took the time to contribute by completing the survey and participated in the project during this period.

Open shop weekend at TPS HACKNEY site Sedgwick Street, Homerton

Dearest Friends, Followers and Supporters

It is with great pleasure that I update this blog by announcing a open day this weekend. I can now confirm that the site in question is Sedgwick Street, Homerton and at present is covered with bright blue hoarding, you cant miss it.
TPS Hackney and Ash Sakula Architects will be on site to hear from you your thoughts and feelings specifically about this location and how it could work for you. We will be out on the street and will have all sorts of ways for you to participate on how this unit could be used.
There are only a few more weeks left of the consultation now so word needs to spread as wide as possible in these last weeks. We are planning a finale event at the end of October to share the final draft of the report with the public for discussion before it is submitted. Please save Tuesday 25 October as a date in your diary, more details to follow.

Tomorrow: Friday 30 Sept 3pm – 7pm and Saturday 11am – 3pm

  • Come down for a tour of the empty shell we have been offered
  • Tell the architects what they can do for you with the building
  • Pick up some surveys to distribute
  • Question us about how TPS works in Holborn

The site on Sedgwick Street, Homerton E9 is owned by Viridian Housing.

Viridian Chief Executive Matthew Fox welcomed the opportunity to be a part of the process.

“We are delighted that The People’s Supermarket has asked for community consultation, we see this as a brilliant way of strengthening the local Homerton community,” said Mr Fox.

The supermarket offers an alternative food buying network to the people of Hackney by connecting an urban community with the local farming community.

TPS are planning to present the final draft for public discussion at Chats Palace, Brooksby’s Walk on Tuesday 25 October 2011 from 4pm. This will be the last chance to provide feedback before the report is presented to the Hackney Regeneration Team at the beginning of November 2011.

Opening a second store in the area is part of the Supermarket’s vision to create commercially sustainable social enterprises that achieve growth and profitability through communities working together.

Look forward to seeing you there, Jessica

Hello Hackney!

Dearest East and North London People’s Supermarket Members,

I am Jessica Green a TPS (The People’s Supermarket) Member and East London resident, I have also been working as the PA to Kate / Office organiser at TPS in Holborn since April so some of us have definitely already met.

It is with lots of excitement that I am pleased to announce the start of a project commissioned by Hackney Regeneration department to survey Homerton to find if the community would support a TPS.

The plan is to run a 7 week consultation with the local community of Homerton and the wider Hackney area — through survey, market stall, face to face discussion and social media.

Tomorrow the Evening Standard will run a story on the potential that the People’s Supermarket has to contribute to the community in Hackney! I attach the press release for your information.

If you would like to be involved and just do your 4 hour shift nearer your home - please say! It is really important to have existing members to act as ambassador’s and of course the more people talking to each other the better.

We will be at Chatsworth Market every sunday starting next weekend so if you would like to come down between 10am (set up for 11am start) to 4pm - we can give an example of what we do - the more the merrier to speak to people and spread the love that started in Lamb’s Conduit Street.

If there is someone I should hear or meet please, please make a connection and introduce me, my details are on the contact page of this website, and very soon I will send have an attachement of the survey, a version of the leaflet and a link to the blog will we be using for the survey period.

All comments, questions, thoughts and ideas are very welcome at any time.

Best wishes,

Jessica
